Tithes and offerings support the work of the church, which goes beyond weekly sermons. It helps the church to better serve the community.  There are many biblical readings which talk about the importance of tithing, for example; 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
