It then moved to the Parson Seminary, located on what is now the old high school, where they continued to meet until 1860. After the difficult times of the Civil War, the Church made plans to build their own facility. On the second Sunday of May, 1882, the dedication sermon was delivered in the new church. The walls were unpainted, the benches were hard and straight, and there was no organ or piano, but songs were sung from the Methodist Hymnal a cappella. The current Sanctuary was built in 1920 and has beautiful stained glass windows, a bell tower, and a balcony. You can see the pictures on our Grace and Time page. This history of tradition and commitment, yet change and renewal, tells you much about Manor United Methodist Church and the people who worship here. It is a welcoming, inviting place to belong. There is the warmth of strong faith held through the years coupled with the awareness that Christ is always calling us to be a new creation and share the Gospel with all. Our church family consists of members who support the church through their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service, and their witness. We are blessed with members who have worshipped at MUMC for decades and with those who have just joined our community as Manor has grown. Many of our families live in the Manor Community, some commute for work in Austin or other nearby towns and cities. Most importantly, we welcome visitors and openly accept all to Christ’s community of faith. We are looking forward to meeting you! |
